ENERGY STORAGE, GLOBAL ENTERPRISE
A Regional Dashboard That Went Global. And Stopped Every Inbound Status Call.

The Problem
The company was a global energy storage manufacturer with over a billion dollars in revenue. Project managers across multiple regions had no centralized visibility into their customer projects. Status updates required phone calls to finance. Budget-to-actual tracking was done manually in spreadsheets that were always out of date.
Finance was spending significant time fielding inbound requests from project managers who just wanted to know where their projects stood. The information existed in SAP and Clarity, but it was locked behind systems that project managers could not access directly.
Regional leadership wanted a dashboard. What they got was a system that the global organization adopted.
The Outcome
Novexa built a Power BI dashboard connected to SAP and Clarity via OData that gave every project manager real-time visibility into their customer projects. Budget versus actual, milestone tracking, revenue recognition status, and margin analysis were all available without a phone call.
Inbound status calls to finance dropped to zero after launch. The dashboard was originally scoped for one region but was deployed globally after the first quarter because every other region wanted the same thing.
Finance got their time back. Project managers got their answers. And leadership got consistent reporting across every region for the first time.
The Approach
- 1.
Mapped the data landscape
Documented the data structures in SAP and Clarity, identified the OData endpoints that could serve real-time project data, and mapped the fields needed for project manager visibility: budget, actuals, milestones, revenue recognition, and margin.
- 2.
Designed the data model for multi-region scale
Built a star schema in Power BI that could handle project data across multiple regions, currencies, and business units. The model was designed from the start to scale globally even though the initial scope was regional.
- 3.
Built role-specific views
Created dashboard views for three audiences: project managers who needed customer-level detail, regional directors who needed portfolio summaries, and finance who needed revenue and margin analysis. All views pulled from the same model.
- 4.
Deployed regionally, then globally
Launched in one region, validated with project managers and finance, and iterated based on real usage. Within one quarter the global organization requested deployment. The model scaled without rearchitecting because the foundation was built for it.
When a project manager has to call finance to understand their own customer, the reporting system has failed them. The right system gives every stakeholder the view they need to do their job. Without a phone call.
Identifying details have been generalized to protect client privacy. Outcomes reflect actual engagement results.
